All Maddox Storm wanted was to come home to Silver Firs and lie low while her divorce goes through. And maybe get a little sweet (totally innocent) revenge.
But everything goes out the window when she finds her arch-nemesis dead as a doormat in the kitchen downstairs. Before she knows it, she’s embroiled in a murder investigation and tangling with the smoky-eyed detective on the case. Not that she doesn’t trust him to do his job, but he may not be quite as motivated as she is to bring the guilty party to justice. After all, she’s the one who unwittingly incriminated upstanding townsfolk and worse, she may be living under the same roof as a pair of unlikely murderers.

Worst Laid Plans A Maddox Storm Mystery Book 1 edition by Claire Robyns Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks
A plucky, realistic heroine and a host of eccentric small-town characters and businesses made this a thoroughly enjoyable mystery. Although the murderer was fairly easy to identify, the essential clue didn't appear until well into the book, so the fun lay in watching the protagonist unravel the threads of the mystery. The story was well-written, with only a couple of tiny edit fails--certainly not enough to upset even the most discerning reader. I did argue with a couple of actions on the part of the detective which, in real life, he would have avoided like the plague rather than risk being slapped with a sexual harassment suit. I understood that the scenes were placed into the story to increase the romantic tension between the characters, but the behavior wasn't realistic. Still, a nice little hook at the end makes one eager to read the next installment in the series.Product details

Worst Laid Plans A Maddox Storm Mystery Book 1 edition by Claire Robyns Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
This was the funniest book I've read in a long time. There are a few words incorrectly used and some typos but it was so entertaining I'm still giving it 5 stars and going back for book two.
I simply loved Maddox Storm. Her strength, snarkyness, and the way she didn't fall apart over her ex., not until she started to think of all the good she lost because he cheated.
I wish I had a friend like Jenna. I also wish our town had a ....I was gonna say a place that sold breakfast where the locals and...ok tourists...could meet over a cup of fancy coffee and an almond...um I'm gonna say danish. I can't spell croissant. Closest we have is Hardee's or McDonald's if you don't mind the extra drive time.
I'm always downloading free books. A lot of times, I don't make it past the first couple of chapters. Not so on this one. I read it in one sitting. Maddox Storm is a delightful character. Her sense of humor and dialog make her very real and easy to relate to. The story line was believable and kept me guessing whodunit. The cast of supporting characters are well developed and fit together wonderfully well. Not just a good murder mystery either; there's also the question of who wins her heart.
I loved this book! Can’t wait to read more from this author. The book was a murder mystery but was also a comedy. One of my favorite types of books!
I really loved this book. The characters are quirky and very interesting. I was sorry the book ended. Very pleased to find more in the series. Loved the surprise ending of this who done it! Thank you for a fantastic new to love mystery/romance series. I cannot wait to read the next three books. This is a book I would highly recommend, but with caution you won't be able to stop at just one book!
What does a reader do after overdosing on several heart-racing, page-turning thrillers? Select a cozy mystery to settle the nerves and end the tension. I went through my downloaded books and selected "Worst Laid Plans" as a destresser, and I am glad of this choice. Of course this was not your Aunt Edna's cozy by any means the final chapters held plenty of surprises and the author kept the tension going until the very end. As a 76-y-o man, I can enjoy this sort of story even with all the undertones of a young woman's yearnings for the detective with the smoky gray eyes.
I am always on the lookout for new mysteries with a dash (ok, maybe more) of romance. And I have found a new series to love!
Maddox (Maddie) is happily married to Joe, until she catches him with another woman. In revenge, she uses the savings in their joint account to buy shares in a dilapitated hotel in her home town and decides to stay there for a while. Unfortunately, she finds a body in the kitchen on her first day back. Investigating detective is Nate Bishop (I already started to swoon as I love cops...) and during the interview Maddie unwittingly implicates some villagers. She tries to amend her mistakes by doing some sleuthing herself, with the help of her BFF Jenna.
I really liked this story and the mystery. The chemistry between Maddox en Nate is obvious. Maddox is a likeable heroine and certainly not TSTL. I immediately bought all published books in the series (which are 3 at this point with a Christmas special) and am going to binge this weekend!
Highly recommend.
